Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 05:23:04 GMT

As the 1-1 series shifts to South Beach and Jimmy Butler’s ankle gets three days to heal, Heat coach Erik Spoelstra was gearing up for a battle that the Roman Empire could appreciate.“If you’re a basketball aficionado, you have to love this series. You have great competition. Guys going after it,” Spoelstra said. “Leaving nothing to chance. Both teams probably could use an extra day just to gear up for the gladiator battle that’s about to ensue on Saturday.”The Knicks won the hustle game Tuesday night, specifically on the glass down the stretch. The possession that shifted the victory toward New York lasted over a minute and included four offensive rebounds, ending with a Josh Hart corner 3-pointer that knotted the score at 96 with 4:45 remaining. The Knicks, at that point, were riding high off their workman backup center, Isaiah Hartenstein, who was owning the boards and drawing a proper Garden appreciation. Bruins beat: Brad Marchand has all the qualities of a captain

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 05:23:04 GMT

No one knows whether Patrice Bergeron will be back for another year. But if Bergeron does decide to hand over his No. 37 to equipment manager Keith Robinson for its inevitable ascension to the Garden rafters, there should be little doubt about which player should be getting the ‘C’ that’s been affixed to that jersey the last few of years. As he’s matured and grown from being a player who wrestled with – and often lost to – his emotions on the ice, Brad Marchand has grown into an insightful voice in the dressing room who is as good as anyone in articulating the state of the team. And the competitiveness that has always been the hallmark of his game was plainly evident in the playoffs. He was able to elevate his game from the regular season – when he battled inconsistency following double hip surgery – to record 10 points in the seven-game loss to the Panthers. When  Bergeron and David Krejci were out, Marchand was the tone-setter for the team that bui...

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Federal Reserve reinforced its fight against high inflation Wednesday by raising its key interest rate by a quarter-point to the highest level in 16 years. But the Fed also signaled that it may now pause the streak of 10 rate hikes that have made borrowing for consumers and businesses steadily more expensive. In a statement after its latest policy meeting, the Fed said that while the banking system is “sound and resilient," the upheaval in the financial system could slow borrowing, spending and growth. It reiterated that the impact of pullback in bank lending “remains uncertain.”The Fed's rate increases over the past 14 months have more than doubled mortgage rates, elevated the costs of auto loans, credit card borrowing and business loans and heightened the risk of a recession. Home sales have plunged as a result. The Fed’s latest move, which raised its benchmark rate to roughly 5.1%, could further increase borrowing costs.Yet the Fed’s efforts have only partly ...
