As a University of Denver freshman in 2015, Logan O’Connor was scratched from his first 13 games with the Pioneers, and doubt started to swirl in the forward’s head.“That was the first time in my career that the vision of making it to the NHL was blurred, and I wasn’t exactly sure it was going to work out,” O’Connor recalled on Tuesday. “But I focused on being a good teammate, on what I could prove in practice, and I used that offseason to make sure that didn’t happen again.”Fast-forward eight years, and LOC’s come-up is on full display early in the season for the Avalanche. O’Connor, the league leader with three shorthanded goals, earned a promotion to Colorado’s third line last week. Over the past two-plus years, he’s gone from an undrafted variable into one of the Avs’ pillars amid another season with championship expectations.“He’s been a guy where through these first 10 games we can ...Diamond-encrusted necklaces among items stolen from CU Buffs locker room at Rose Bowl

There were a few more players from the opposing team watching parts of the Colorado Avalanche’s morning skate Tuesday at Ball Arena, and it’s a pretty safe bet on the reasoning for it: Two of their old pals were on the ice.Miles Wood and Tomas Tatar were getting ready to face their former team for the first time with the New Jersey Devils in town.“It’s exciting to see all the guys again,” Tatar said. “You want to play well to kind of stick it to them. I have a lot of friends on the team and I had a great two years there. I’m looking forward to the challenge of playing against them.”Wood was a fourth-round pick by the Devils in 2013, and spent eight seasons in New Jersey. His best year was 2017-18, when he had a career-high 19 goals and 32 points, and the club made the playoffs for the first time in six seasons. After that, it was a long grind of a rebuild, followed by a couple of seasons with increased preseason expectations but disappo...Baskin-Robbins has outdone itself

If Bay Area theatergoers don’t know Michael Gene Sullivan by now, they must not be paying attention. As an actor, the San Francisco native is a frequent and outstanding presence on prominent stages all around the Bay, from TheatreWorks Silicon Valley to Marin Theatre Company. As a playwright, he’s written most of the San Francisco Mime Troupe’s yearly activist musical comedies since 2000, and other local companies have produced his plays such as “The Great Khan” at San Francisco Playhouse. And yet Sullivan’s most successful play, his adaptation of the influential George Orwell novel “1984,” is only now making its official Bay Area premiere with Aurora Theatre Company, 20 years after he wrote it.The Actors’ Gang in Los Angeles premiered the play in 2006, directed by that company’s artistic director, stage and screen star Tim Robbins. Since then it’s been translated into six languages and been performed all over the country and the world.“I’d sent it to different theaters in the B...Will.i.am receives Tech for Global Good humanitarian award
